Tuesday Newsday – 7/10

I am back home, much to my dismay. It was a wonderful vacation, but it also made me realize how much I need a change in my life. I do love Colorado, but I’ve lived here all my life and I’m ready for something new; the next step in my life. I’m at a really rough spot; I feel like I’m in limbo land. I really hate my job (horribly/depressingly), where I’m living and just generally where my life is at this point. (Clarification: I do not hate my life, just the time and place I’m in right now if that makes sense).

I also do not want to go home for other reasons. Great things happened this last week, and I’m really excited to see what the future brings for them. That’s pretty cryptic, I know, but that’s about all I want to indulge to mostly strangers.

Anyway, enough of that. Let’s talk running and Tuesday Newsday.

1. My Alaska trip, like I said before, was FANTASTIC! Alaska was more beautiful than I ever imagined!!! Since I originally wanted to make this blog a little about the traveling part of Racing the States, I will post more later this week about my trip. I already showed you a little bit of it by telling about Mt. Marathon. (Scariest hike ever!!!)

2. Now that I’m back home, I’m ready to get back in shape!!! I’m going to be pre-marthon training, training. haha. That’s what I’m calling in. I wont start my official marathon training plan for another month, so I just need to get back in shape from taking it easy the last few weeks. I’ve been doing a lot of reading about marathon training and I’m still debating on the program I want to do. Anyone with suggestions or just let me know which one you use! I have a few books, one is the Marathon Training Guide by Hal Higdon that I’ve heard great things about.

3. I want to start weight training again. I’ve kinda fallen off the bandwagon with lifting…by that I mean, I haven’t lifted for a loooong while. 2-3 days a week is my goal for getting to the gym…although, I need to go to a new gym now….I guess that’s what happens when it doesn’t work out with dating a personal trainer! opps!

4. Well, I don’t have much other news right now…so here’s a sneak peak at my Alaska Trip:

  1. i’ve heard great things about the Higdon, and my running store in Lexington speaks really highly of it as well. i’ve always used the Runner’s World SmartCoach, and had great results – never gotten an overuse injury, and the projected finish times have always been spot-on. good luck!! : )

  2. Hang in there! I think most people have been where you have been in life (I know I sure have), and then all of the sudden, everything falls into place!

The plan we’re doing now is based off of Hal Higdon with some changes, but apparently he’s pretty much the go-to person when it comes to marathon training.

    • I’m hanging in lol! ANd thanks for the Hal Higdon review, I’ve been hearing that the most! So I’ll probably finish reading his book and pick a plan. Are you still going to try to BQ with your first marathon??

  3. My husband has always wanted to take me to Alaska. It is definitely on our “to do” list. I know how you feel when you feel in limbo. Hence, the reason we have lived in 3 states in 3 years. My family says we have “itchy feet.” That is a nice way of telling us we move way too much 🙂

What do you have to say?
