Erin Go Braugh 7.77K – Post Race Recap

(Here’s another PRE MARATHON race I did and never had a chance to post on. This one was from way back in March!! I didn’t want to leave it out because it was a fun run!  The Erin Go Braugh 7.77K took place on March 16th)

Erin Go Braugh 7.77kThe Erin Go Braugh 7.77K was put on by the 3W Races Group. They have multiple events all year long from 5K’s to, now, half marathons. I really like this group. The race directors, ambassadors and volunteers are always very nice. They events are always well organized and fun. They usually have a lot of perks like fun t-shirts, medals, great giveaways and post race “parties.”

I’m trying to recall alllllllllllllllll the way from back in March, in which case, that might make this is a short review.

It was St. Partrick’s day weekend. Me and my friends did indeed go out the night before. I do recall being the DD, designated driver, that night, so luckily I wasn’t going to have to deal with a hangover; just being super tired for the race.

After socializing at a local dance club, I rounded up my friends and we returned back to the house.

When we got to my friend’s house, we worked out our “costumes.” Now, that was a blast. Being tired, my friends being tipsy, working with fabric paint…we created shorts, a cape and a dog scarf while preparing what we were going to wear the following day.

We finally went to sleep, only to have our alarms wake us up a few hours later…….I know, I know…I like to run races on little sleep. It’s quite ridiculous….

We rolled out of bed, well, I rolled off my friend’s couch, and we made our way up to Westminster, CO (a suburb of denver, about 15 min north). There was four of us total: 3 runner’s and our cheer-er (i don’t like the word cheerleader).

The course followed the Dry Creek Path in Westminster and was both concrete and dirt. With a relatively flat course and one of my friends up ahead, I was able to push myself pretty hard and ran a great race.

It feels like forever ago, but I had a great race! I had my fastest ever pace!! I finished the 7.77K with a 8:00min/mile pace. I placed 4th in my age group as well.

The girl who took first in my age group looked familiar…she’s the 3W Race Series ambassador and a cross country runner for my alma-mater up at CSU. She runs almost ever 3W event and ALWAYS places first. Part of me is jealous and part of me wants to say this is fair, haha. But it is what it is, right?

The post race party was filled with dancing, silly pictures and socializing while they presented the awards.

Dance Party!

Dance Party!

The post-post race party was in a bar/restaurant nearby where we got a free beer and some delicious food.

As I type this, many months after, I look back now, I was getting pretty fast, I hope that as I ramp up my training again here, post marathon, I can get back to this level. I’m sure it will come back….right??
